Robert “Robbie” Collins is an active performer, educator, and scholar whose work spans orchestral, solo, chamber, and historical performance traditions. He serves as Director of Brass Studies and Music Theory Coordinator at North Greenville University, where he teaches applied trumpet, brass techniques, chamber ensembles, and music theory courses.
As a performer, Collins maintains a diverse national career. He has previously served as Acting Principal Trumpet with the South Carolina Philharmonic and has performed with ensembles including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra May Festival, Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, Spartanburg Philharmonic, Lexington Philharmonic, and Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, among others. His commercial and touring experience includes productions such as The Voice of Whitney Houston national tour and Celtic Woman: Christmas Symphony Tour.
Deeply committed to education, Collins regularly presents masterclasses and clinics across the United States and abroad. Recent engagements include teaching at the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp and the Corfu International Trumpet Festival. His teaching philosophy emphasizes technical efficiency, stylistic versatility, and musical ownership across a wide range of repertoire. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Historic Brass Society.
Prior to this, Robert served as the co-chair for the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Pre-Professional Division. Additionally, he previously worked with the University of Kentucky Summer Trumpet Institute, International Trumpet Guild Conference, North American Baroque Trumpet Competition, and Gardner-Webb Trumpet Summit. He has also been an attendee at the Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar during his time researching his dissertation.
Robert is an upcoming third year DMA student (ABD) at the University of Kentucky, where he currently serves as a teaching assistant for the trumpet studio. In addition to working on his doctorate, he has also obtained the Certificate in Baroque Trumpet Performance from the University of Kentucky. He completed his master's degree at East Carolina University and his undergraduate degree at Gardner-Webb University.Collins is currently ABD toward the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance at the University of Kentucky. He holds degrees from East Carolina University and Gardner-Webb University, and continues to balance teaching, performing, and scholarly activity at both national and international levels.
His current teacher in both modern and baroque trumpet is Dr. Jason Dovel. His previous trumpet instructors include Alan Siebert, Gabriel DiMartino, and Tim Hudson. Robert has also participated in masterclasses led by renowned trumpet players such as Hakan Hardenberger, Edward Carrol, Clément Saunier, Chris Martin, Charles Schlueter, Josh Cohen, Mark Ridenour, David Bilger, Craig Morris, Vince DiMartino, and Rex Richardson.
